Claudia of the Circus

Plot:

Claudia Grey, an orphan lived at ‘Edgecliffe Hall’ with her stern maiden aunts. She is happy when her aunts allowed her to stay at Boselli’s Circus and she soon gets to know all the circus people.

Vicky and the Crested Dragon

Plot:

Vicky and her father, Professor Curtis, visit the Ancient Burmese city of Shansi, where they befriend the young Prince Minyan.  They discover the “Prince” is secretly a girl who too the place of her twin brother after he was kidnapped by bandits as a baby.

Susan of St. Bride’s

Plot:

Susan Marsh is a student nurse of St. Brides. In one story Susan finds an abandoned baby with a bad burn. When she discovers the burn can only be healed with a skin graft from a parent she starts to search for the parents. Another story sees the hospital taken over by their traditional rivals St. Bartophs, Susan and her friends Carol and Lois are sent to work in the new private wing. When their staff nurse Peggy is replaced by Julie Oliver from St. Bartophs, Carol and Lois are not happy thinking Julie used her connections to get the job. Susan however likes Julie and wants to help her out.

Kay Of The ‘Courier’

Plot:

Kay Roper is a reporter for the Shepley Courier which leads her to solving various mysteries and getting into adventures. In one story Kay and Bob, a reporter from the Evening Star, suspect that a priceless necklace stolen from Llyods’ stores, has been hidden in a rocking-horse. Kay unjustly fired from the Courier gets a job at Llyods’ to investigate further.

Wendy and Jinx

Plot:

Wendy and Jinx are inseparable friends at the Manor School boarding school. They got into many adventures including solving a few mysteries. In one story a theatrical school, Fairbridge opens nearby and Jinx has a run in with a pupil Rowena which then starts a feud between the two schools. Another story has the girls move to Grantly Grange when the boarding house at Manor School is destroyed in a fire.  When they find out that Grantly Grange is supposed to be haunted they go on a ghost hunt.

Kitty Hawke and her All-Girl Air Crew

Plot:

The adventures of Kitty Hawke and her All Girl Aircrew consisting of Winifred ‘Windfall’ White, Radio Officer Jean Stuart and Navigator Patricia D’Arcy. Kitty was the fiesty daughter of the owner of Hawke airlines and determined to show her father that girls can do same things as men.

Notes:

  • As Girl was a counterpart to the boy’s paper Eagle, Kitty Hawke was a kind of equivalent to Eagle’s Dan Dare.
  • It started as the cover story but was replaced by Wendy and Jinx
