The Lost Lass of Laramie

Plot

Towards the end of the 19th century, two year old Alison Langley had been kidnapped and raised by Comanche Native Americans. When she was 13 she was made to return to her original home, but Alison, now known as White Cloud, was not happy about this, and soon ran away to try and find her adoptive family.

Peggy the Police Girl

Plot

Young Peggy Jones joined the police force as a Police Girl Cadet. She was sent to the village of Melrick, where she took up lodgings’ with the village policeman, Constable Gregson, and his wife. Lady Merlick is not sure she is up for the job, but Peggy impresses her, when she stops a purse snatcher that had taken Lady Merlick’s bag.

Jenny Trevelyn

Plot

In 1780, Jenny Trevelyn’s father, a sailor, died while away on a trip.  Her mother a wise woman, taught Jenny all she knew about herbs and medicines.

The Sunshine of her Songs

Plot

Carole Chatton found joy in singing but her stepmother Kaye, hated Carole and was always cruel to her, while her father was away. When she gets invited to sing at concert, Kaye burns the letter, but Carole finds out about, it but has no dress to wear to the concert. With help from her neighbour Flossie, she wins money in a talent contest but Kaye finds out and takes the money so again she’s left with nothing to buy a dress.

The Boot Laceys

Plot

Paula Lacey and her twin brother and sister, Peter and Penny, were orphans. Along with their grandfather, they were travelling to Willowdene in a giant-sized boot which they had converted into a home with wheels. Mr Lacey was a skilled cobbler, and intended to go into partnership with his brother when they reached Willowdene.

The Girl with the Wooden Collar

Plot

Kate Pickard was the daughter of a rich English merchant in the 14th century. Kate was on her way to join her father when she was captured by pirates  and sold as a slave to a tribe of Tartars. She was made the favourite slave of Princess Temulin, the Tartar chief’s daughter. Kate was forced to wear a wooden collar as a punishment for trying to escape.

Sarah – Slave of Darkness

Plot

In the 1800s, young Sarah Brown worked with scores of other unfortunate children in a coal mine. Only the hope that she might find a clue in the mine to prove that her father had not caused the disastrous explosion in which six men had been killed, enabled her to continue to work in the dreadful conditions in the pit. Her father, Jeremy Brown, had lost his memory in the accident and Sarah had to look after him in addition to earning a living.
