Terror in the Big Top

Plot:

Was the ghost of dead circus star Carla Francetti menacing her young replacement, Gina Mason? During Gina’s high-wire act, the wire snapped and Gina plummeted downwards.She managed to save herself but she was suspicious of Taga, the circus lion tamer.

Little Miss Feather Feet

Plot

Hylda is a mystery girl. She does not know her exact age, her parents, and has no full name. She has been living with Uncle Josh and Aunt Carrie, who travel with Santor’s Fair and Circus ever since she can remember, but they and cousin Bette are not kind to her. Hylda decides to go against the circus to find her true parents and indulge her passion of becoming a top gymnast.

Sawdust Star

Plot:

Sylvia Soames is trapped in a circus run by a cruel employer, Madame Minetti. She perfects a dangerous acrobatic act in the hope Madame Minetti will “sell” her to the circus run by the kindly Signor Costello. But then he dies and his circus is taken over by his nephew Guido. Guido is just as cruel as Madame Minetti, and now they are partners.

Runaway Rhona

Plot

When Rhona Lockhart’s widowed mother marries Gervase Power, a wealthy landowner who is passionately interested in horses. Rhona is expected to become a competent rider. Rhona loves horses, but she lost her nerve after a bad fall when she was young and now she is terrified to ride. Because of this. Rhona runs away from home and joins a travelling circus—only to be given a job as a bare-back rider! To her surprise, Rhona discovers that she is not afraid while riding bare-back, because she is free to leap on and off the horse. She makes splendid progress and the circus-owner decides she is ready to perform in public. Unknown to Rhona, her stepsister, Charlotte, has reported seeing her near the circus ground, and Mr Power arrives with Rhona’s mother and Charlotte just as Rhona comes on.

Jumbo and Jet

Plot

When Black’s Circus breaks up, the cruel Mr Haxby has his eye on buying Jumbo the elephant. Fortunately, he fails. The granddaughter, Jet Black, is now riding Jumbo all the way to a safari park in Cornwall. But Haxby is still determined to have Jumbo and is dogging them at every turn.

Marisa and the Doves

Plot

During the German occupation of Holland, Marisa, a little circus  star, stays on at the circus after it is closed by the German soldiers. Marisa spends her time training her doves in a circus act and hiding a British agent, Jeff Carson.

Anya at Ballet School / Big Top Ballet

Plot:

Anya Bergman, a young girl from a travelling fair, is a pupil at the exclusive Marovani School of Ballet. Gerda Nansen, a mean, spiteful girl, plays a nasty trick which leads to Anya being accused of stealing Gerda’s golden locket and chain. The chain is found in Anya’s locker—but the locket is still missing. Anya is forbidden to take part in any of the school activities until the Governors meet to discuss the matter of the missing locket and decide whether or not Anya is to be expelled.

Anya returns in Big Top Ballet  Anya’s ballet class moves in with the circus owned by Marta Bruk, Anya’s guardian, when their ballet school is partly damaged by fire. When Marta Bruk dies in an accident, Anya finds herself heir to the circus. But there is a snag—the circus attendance figures, marked on a graph, must remain above a certain number each week or Anya will lose the circus to someone whose identity is not disclosed to her. This person is really her Uncle Fedor, who is determined to get the circus at any price. By a trick, Fedor makes the High Fliers, the star act of the circus, walk out, and many of the audience stay away.

Gilda the Goose Girl

Plot

Gilda, a girl from the mountains, joins Bruno’s Circus as a tightrope walker. News of her sensational act, in which her pet geese take part, spreads and the circus is invited to bring its show to the State Circus in Munich Germany. On their way they take shelter from a storm in a castle. Gilda feels she knows the castle and has some connection to it.

Popski’s Circus

Plot

Marina is the daughter of a dancer with Popski’s small French circus.  When her mother is taken to hospital, a welfare officer, Miss Truelove, arrives to take Marina to a home. But Marina runs off with her circus friend Peter. The circus lion, Brutus, is very attached to Marina and escapes to join her. They eventually come back to the circus  Popski, the miserly owner has an idea to use them in a trapeze act  but when it goes wrong he decides to sell the circus.

The circus return’s with its new owner, Marina and Peter’s friend, Ned. Unfortunately for Ned Popski left the circus in a lot of debt.
