Cat’s Eye Cottage

Plot:

Listed as a Spellbound story. There is something strange about Mill Cottage, or “Cat’s Eye Cottage” as the locals call it. Nobody ever rents it for long. The Bailey family rent it for a short holiday. Strange things begin to happen, which are connected with Dad’s paintings, and a mysterious cat shows up.

The Forbidden Beach

Plot

Alison Cooper is staying with a distant relative, “Aunt” Moira Hewitt. Alison finds the house  creepy and Aunt Moira is behaving strangely, in that she has banned Alison from the beach in front of the house and won’t say why. Alison disobeys orders to rescue a baby seal, which she has kept hidden and named Flippers. But a well-meaning photographer takes a photograph of Alison and Flippers on the beach, and Alison’s secret is in danger when he pushes the best shot through the mail slot.

Little Miss Feather Feet

Plot

Hylda is a mystery girl. She does not know her exact age, her parents, and has no full name. She has been living with Uncle Josh and Aunt Carrie, who travel with Santor’s Fair and Circus ever since she can remember, but they and cousin Bette are not kind to her. Hylda decides to go against the circus to find her true parents and indulge her passion of becoming a top gymnast.

Plot:

In The Glamour World of Victoria Jones – a mysterious veiled woman, Miss Trent, had offered to help schoolgirl Victoria and her widowed mother by giving them jobs in her dress shop as models. Victoria returns in sequels:

Victoria Jones – and the Queen of Diamonds

Victoria Jones and her friend Anna are searching for Victoria’s mother, who has disappeared on a modelling tour of Europe. They are being aided in their quest by Madame Carnez, who says she had organised the tour. The mystery deepens when diving gear that Madame Carnez loaned them yields diamonds hidden in the spear gun. After seeing Madame Carnez’s reaction to this, Victoria thinks she is concealing something.

Victoria Jones – and the Dragon Girl

Victoria and her mother now owning a gown salon, hire a Chinese girl Suzi as a model. Victoria begins to suspect her of thievery but is then surprised to find out Suzi is working for the police.

Victoria buys up golden material in Greece and makes six dresses from them. Then Secret Service informs her that a secret code is interwoven into the fabric, which she received by mistake, and the dresses need to be recovered before enemy agents get to them.

Victoria Jones and the Black Cat Boutique

A rival boutique, the Black Cat Boutique, opens up. Its owner, “Black Mary” MacRae, makes direct threats to put Victoria out of business after Victoria offends her, and there’s a story that she’s a witch.

Patsy Pincher

Plot

Orphan Patsy Pincher, adopted by Colonel Travers,  had been treated like a skivvy after the colonel was killed. The colonel’s will left everything to Patsy, provided that she stayed at the Manor. Mrs Bartlett, the colonel’s niece, together with her daughter, Lila, and the sinister butler, Sleeg, wanted to make Patsy run away. Patsy found out that a medallion she owned had once been in the colonel’s family, and had been given to a mysterious Jessica. Then she was told by a stranger that Jessica’s daughter was drowned as a baby.

Fleetfoot – Girl of the Wilds

Plot:

Fleetfoot lives with the Indians but is not an Indian. She has a golden locket, which is her most prized possession, but she does not realise it holds the key to her true identity. When it opens, she cannot understand it because she cannot read. But Mr Hollins, whom she has befriended, can read it and they go in search of the ranch mentioned in the locket.

The Power of Petra

Plot:

Shirley Smith, a new pupil at Redcliffe Towers Boarding School, discovers that Petra Barnes has a hold over everyone to get her own way at everything. Even the headmistress is in Petra’s grip, so Petra can arrange to have girls expelled for crossing her, and several pupils go this way. Shirley is determined to find out what gives Petra her power over Redcliffe Towers.

Rosie’s Revenge

Plot:

When maidservant Emily Carter is wrongly accused of theft, she runs away in a terrible state and drowns. Emily’s sister Rosie goes into service in the household to unmask the real thief and clear Emily’s name. But the thief rumbles Rosie and starts sending her death threats.
