The Light Must Shine

Plot

Lynn Saunders was spending a holiday with her  great-aunt, Mrs Treverran, in a strange old cliff-top house in Cornwall. Every night, Lynn’s aunt signalled out to sea with a lamp, and waited for some mysterious person to come. Lynn was anxious to solve the mystery, but the Thorpes, Mrs Treverran’s servants, were trying to drive her away. A clue took Lynn in search of an ex-servant, Nanny Pleydell, only to find her house closed up and deserted. As Lynn was making her way back to Beacon House, a storm broke.

The Sound of Fear [1975]

Plot

A strange disease which affected the bird life of Britain  seemed connected with a screeching noise. Naturalist Adam Falconer, with his daughters Chris and Mandy, and Ian Sinclair, a government official, were making by train for London to investigate the noise, when a horde of owls invaded the driver’s cabin as the train approached a red signal.

The Village of Strangers

Plot

After losing their way in the woods one day, the whole of Jane and John Nash’s past life seems to be wiped out. A local landowner, Sir Roland, takes them to his gloomy mansion, claiming that they are his grandchildren who disappeared three years ago. After a fire, they escape through a tunnel which leads them back to a secret passage in a wall of the old house. Looking through a “window” set into the wall of the passage, they see their father talking to Sir Roland and a local farmer. They try to attract his attention.

Marty’s Fight with Nicola/Marty and the Missing Cats/ Marty and the Riding Lessons

Plot:

A text story that follows the adventures of Marty Potts and her friend Sally Ann, each story had its own title. In Marty’s Fight with Nicola, Marty has a fight with her arch-enemy Nicola Denham in the local churchyard. The Reverend Wilkinson passes the matter to the girls Headmaster to deal with. In Marty and the Missing Cats, when cats go missing in the village where Marty stays, she and Sally-Ann, are determined to find out why. Suspicion rests on Ricky Bryant, who is in Marty’s class at school and has recently taken up taxidermy—stuffing animal skins. Marty is curious about a cupboard in Ricky’s shed…

Dark Danger

Plot

Blind Sue Taylor’s father has made her a walking stick with an attachment that helps her to walk alone. She is testing it in a maze when Irene Kayak, the daughter of the President of Slavonia, is kidnapped. Sue believes she can identify the kidnappers, a man and a woman, by their voices, and by the smell of the man’s tobacco and the woman’s scent.

Mystery on the Moors

Plot:

When Pat Jacobs father dies she is sent to live with her Uncle Tom and Aunt Madge. Tom has a security job that is highly secret. Pat of his job is training alsatians for security purposes. He agrees to let Pat train a dog named Gem. One night Gem alerts Pat to a group of suspicious men near the house. Pat tries to investigate further the next day but the tyre marks are gone.

Who is Sylvia? [1968]

Plot

Sylvia Rickart, an orphaned refugee, is visiting Hungary with a gymnastic team. She is trying to discover her real identity, and a medallion engraved with a “C” crest is her only clue. She sees the same crest in a hook in a museum, but her jealous cousin, Lena Newton, has her locked in her hostel room and she has to climb out of the window to return to the museum. Her absence is discovered by Miss Harper, who is in charge of the gymnasts.

The Girl with Green Hair

Plot

Jean Kingsley is puzzled by Meryl, a new girl at Fircroft School. Meryl claims to come from the East, but her behaviour is strange, and her hair is a greenish tint that becomes more noticeable, when she is deprived of sunlight.

Slaves of the Silver Sphere

Plot

Jean Douglas and Myrna Lewis, fourth formers at Herondale Boarding School are returning after breaking bounds one night, when Jean sees a strange flash in the sky. Jean finds a glowing ball on the grounds and picks it up. The next morning all the girls are shrunk smaller than the ball which then starts to open up.slaves of the silver sphere
