Minnie’s Mad Motor

Plot:

Mini was the amazing little car bought from an old gipsy by motor sport enthusiast Minnie Davis. ‘ Mini ‘ had an incredible mind of her own, which always baffled Minnie’s partner,  Luke Rennie, a young engineer.

Green for Danger

Plot:

After an explosion at the Amberwell Research Station, Gilda Holmes, daughter of  one of the scientists, had acquired super-human powers at times, though afterwards she remembered nothing. Dr Sable, who was responsible for the explosion, used Gilda to obtain money for some secret experiments. Gilda’s powers suddenly deserted her as she was stealing a famous art-treasure and Sable, in telepathic contact, urged her furiously to fight to regain them.

Janet on Wheels

Plot

Janet Taylor had a knack for handling difficult girls, and  any school needing assistance with a problem pupil could send for her. Miss Warner, headmistress of Starrcroft Comprehensive School for Girls, had asked for help with twelve-year-old Melanie Martin.

Ten Tasks for Toni

Plot:

Toni Townsend, a brilliant young gymnast, had been  treated as a slave by her rich Aunt Libby until, on a summer cruise, they were kidnapped by natives who believed Toni to be a white goddess called Artanza. Unless Toni carried out 10 tasks successfully, she and the other cruise passengers would be killed. Then Toni found that the high priestess, Jana, was trying to kill her.

The Fifth Swan Child

Plot:

Early in the Second World War, Kitty and three other members of the Sparkles, a troupe of British child artistes, were trapped in Paris as the German army began its advance. Kitty took upon herself the task of getting the three little boys to safety. She told the children an old Irish legend of the swan children of Lir, and dreamed that Fionula, the swan maiden, promised her help. As the children accepted a lift in a farm cart, four white swans flew over as if to point the way ahead.

And Jumbo Went, Too

Plot:

The Jay family were promoting the products of the Hannibal Hardware Company by following the famous general’s footsteps across Europe and over the Alps. Because Hannibal had originally made the journey with a troop of elephants, the Jays had brought their own elephant, Jumbo, on the journey.

Sally of Super School

Plot:

Sally Turner had won a scholarship to the Clegg Academy for girls, nicknamed Super School because of its brilliant academic and athletic record. Sally had grown suspicious of brother and sister Lyle and Beatrice Clegg, who ran the school. She attempted to contact Gayle Winters, a local reporter who was writing an article on the school, but failed. As a result, she had caused the school to lose an important cross-country race.

Puny Penny

Plot

Puny Penny Puttick, from Little Leening, had been picked by a computer for training at a special college for future sports champions. Penny had been a flop at everything, but the Principal, Professor Hardknutt, and her governors had complete faith in their computerised selection system. Penny had great faith in herself and decided to tone up her muscles with a special exerciser which she had sent for by mail order.

The Flying Milkmaid

Plot

Tina Trotter, a brilliant natural runner, was being trained by athletics coach Madge Keen, who also made Tina a guest at the exclusive Seadune Athletics Club. Tina had learned her running on her daily milk-round,  and her main concern in life was Baldy, the horse who had pulled the milk-cart. The Club officials soon realised that they had a star runner in Tina and, to humour her, had agreed to stabling Baldy in the Club grounds.
